Moscow, April 17 /Xin Hua/ — The grand opening of the 48th Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) took place on Thursday in the capital of Russia. Around 200 films from more than 40 countries were selected for the program. A total of 1,500 applications were submitted.
The main competition included 13 films from 10 countries, including a Chinese film “The Fall,” directed by Shi Zhenfei.
“The film tells the story of a Chinese family with an only child who faced a sudden and unexpected tragedy, revealing a clash of values and the complexity of humanity. This is a universal human feeling. I believe it will resonate with the Russian audience,” said the producer of the film “Falling” Zhang Sho after the press screening of the film, which took place on Friday at the “Oktyabr” cinema in Moscow.
Several well-known directors and cinematographers from Russia, China, Turkey, Spain, and Sri Lanka, including the Chinese actress and singer Czin Shа, entered the jury of the main competition of the Moscow International Film Festival this year.
“I am participating as a jury member at the film festival for the first time, and I am very happy about it. I hope that more Chinese films will be seen by international audiences, and I also hope that China and Russia will be able to expand cooperation in the field of cinematography to strengthen mutual understanding between our peoples,” noted Czin Sha in an interview with a journalist from the Xin Hua agency.
The festival will be extended until April 23.
