Tehran, April 20 /Xin Hua/ — Iran is full of determination to comprehensively defend itself against any repeated “adventurism” from the United States and Israel, said on Sunday the country’s president Masoud Pezeshkian.

During a telephone conversation with the Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahbaz Sharif, the recent events in the region, the peace negotiations between Tehran and Washington in Islamabad, and issues related to the two-week ceasefire were discussed, according to a statement from his administration.

M. Pezeshkian warned about the consequences of a new anti-Iranian “adventure” by the United States and Israel for security in the Western Asia region and worldwide.

The United States has constantly violated its promises during peaceful negotiations and the ceasefire period, he said, condemning the continuation of “provocative and illegal” actions regarding the introduction of the so-called maritime blockade of Iran as a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement and the UN Charter.

Such actions, along with threats from US officials against Iran, have only increased Tehran’s doubts about the seriousness of Washington’s intentions and further demonstrated the fact that the United States seeks to repeat previous models and betray diplomacy, stated the Iranian president.

He emphasized that Iran is full of determination to support and improve relations with all neighbors, based on the principles of good neighborliness and mutual respect, and hopes that neighboring countries and regional countries, taking into account recent experience, will also strive to ensure regional peace and security based on collective cooperation and without “destructive” interference by transregional actors, especially the United States.

Sh. Sharif, on his part, spoke about Pakistan’s efforts to end the conflict and establish peace in the region, and informed the President of Iran about his recent consultations with regional countries on this issue.

US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that American forces intercepted and took control of a cargo ship flying the Iranian flag, which was trying to bypass the blockade in the Oman Gulf. According to the latest reports from the media, Iran attacked US warships in response to the seizure of an American ship.
