Tehran, April 18 /Xin Hua/ — The Supreme National Security Council of Iran (SNSC) announced on Saturday that the country intends to exercise control and supervision over the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz until the war is conclusively ended and a durable peace is established in the region.
The statement disseminated by the Iranian media was made after the central headquarters of the Armed Forces of Iran “Khatam al-Anbiya” announced earlier that day about the resumption of strict control over the Strait of Hormuz, citing the ongoing maritime blockade by the USA against Iran as the reason.
WSNB reports that it will control the strait, requesting information about the vessel, issuing transit permits, charging fees to ensure security and environmental protection, and regulating navigation in accordance with its decrees and wartime rules.
“At the moment when the enemy tries to obstruct the transit of ships through the strait and resorts to measures such as imposing a naval blockade, which will be regarded as a violation of the [currently] two-week ceasefire regime, the country will not allow the re-opening of the Hormuz Strait under any conditions and in any limited format,” the statement says.
The US Navy also noted that a significant portion of the equipment for American bases in Western Asia is supplied through the Strait of Hormuz, which, as the council pointed out, poses a threat to the security of Iran and the region.
Moreover, the statement indicated that Iran received new proposals from the USA, conveyed through Pakistan during the recent visit of the Commander-in-Chief of the Pakistani Army, Asim Munir, to the Islamic Republic, and is currently studying them.
The USNB added that the negotiation delegation of Iran will not make any concessions and will defend the country’s interests with maximum decisiveness.
