Urumqi, April 19 /Xin Hua/ — In the first quarter of 2026, freight turnover through the Khorgos and Alashankou railway border crossings of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region /Northwest China/ reached 3.712 million and 5.127 million tons respectively, which is 10.3 percent and 12.4 percent more compared to the same period last year respectively. These figures are confirmed by data from the Urumqi branch of the China Railway Corporation.

As the data showed, in the first three months, 2,550 freight trains passed through the Khorgos railway border checkpoint (KPP), following routes of international railway freight transportation between China-Europe and China-Central Asia, increasing by 7.4% year-on-year, while a similar indicator through the Alashankou railway border checkpoint amounted to 2,177, with a growth of 25.2% compared to the same period last year.

Currently, 91 routes operate through the Khorgos railway checkpoint within the framework of China-Europe and China-Central Asia international freight transport, connecting Khorgos with 18 foreign countries. Additionally, 128 similar routes operate through the Alashankou railway checkpoint, covering 21 countries worldwide. -0-
