Moscow, April 18 /Siny UA/ — On Friday, the 11th international wushu tournament “Moscow Wushu Stars 2026” opened at the Moscow Wushu Palace. Participants in the competition are more than 700 athletes from Russia, China, Belarus, India, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan. The tournament will continue until April 21.
White and red sports costumes of the participants stood out brightly on the site, rapid strikes with legs and hands, virtuoso performances with cold weapons demonstrated the full beauty and dynamics of traditional Chinese martial arts.
The Deputy Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Russia, Zhang Wei, delivered a welcome speech at the opening ceremony. He noted that Chinese Wushu is a valuable cultural heritage of the Chinese nation and a precious asset of world civilization. Martial arts not only strengthen people’s health but also serve as an important bridge for inter-human dialogue and friendly communication, gaining increasing popularity worldwide. “I wish all participants to show themselves worthy in the competition, exchange experiences, and strengthen mutual friendship through practicing Wushu,” he noted.
Russian boy Daniil takes part in longfist style competitions. He has been practicing wushu for three years; his movements, strikes, and lunges are distinguished by clarity and precision. The young athlete told journalists that he trains six days a week for two hours each day.
Immediately after the coach Ekaterina Muodanova’s speech ended, she reviewed the technical mistakes with Daniil by watching a video recording on a mobile phone. Other young participants also approached closer, repeating elements of the exercises and carefully analyzing their movements.
“When we first opened the training group, we did not have enough educational materials, equipment, and sports uniforms. Today, the material and technical support is fully established, and the number of our students has reached 350 people,” shared E. Musodanova.
The trainer herself used to practice boxing, but later she was deeply captivated and charmed by Chinese wushu. “This art not only strengthens the body, but also develops a person’s wisdom,” she is confident.
77-year-old Tatyana Kullar, along with her team, arrived from the Republic of Tuva. The athletes are participating in competitions for Taijiquan and Wing Chun. “Thanks to practicing Wushu, my health has significantly improved, all indicators have returned to normal, and I have practically stopped visiting doctors,” remarked the elderly tournament participant.
The head of the Kazakhstan team, Tatyana Zhigalkina, is coming to the Moscow tournament for the fourth time already. According to her, the number of fans and practitioners of Chinese martial arts in Kazakhstan is constantly growing.
The president of the Russian Wushu Federation, Gleb Muzrukov, emphasized that wushu carries a millennia-old Chinese culture, and everyone who seriously practices it gains enormous benefits for the soul and body.
