Guangzhou, April 15 /Xinhua/ — The 139th China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Guangzhou /Canton/ Fair, started on Wednesday in the city of Guangzhou in southern China, gathering a record number of participant enterprises – more than 32 thousand.

According to the organizers, the number of exhibition zones increased to 179, including nine new areas dedicated to smart wearable devices, information display technologies, consumer drones, modular homes, and garden structures.

As of April 9, 290 leading procurement enterprises have confirmed their participation in the fair, which is 30 percent more than last year.

Zhu Yun, head of the Chinese Center for Foreign Trade, stated that new buyers mainly come from the countries participating in the “Belt and Road” initiative, and the number from Latin America and Africa is noticeably increasing.

In accordance with the goal of integrating trade and investment, set out in China’s 15th five-year plan (2026-2030), the Canton Fair will create a new ecosystem of services to facilitate trade throughout the entire life cycle, added Zhu Yun.

The Guangzhou Fair, established in 1957, is held in Guangzhou twice a year. It is the longest-running comprehensive international trade event in China and serves as an important indicator of the situation in China’s foreign trade sector.
