Jerusalem, April 14 /Xin Hua/ — Israel is interested in achieving peace and normalizing relations with Lebanon through direct negotiations, which are scheduled to begin later the same day in Washington. This was announced on Tuesday by Israel’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gideon Saar.

Mr. Saar made an appropriate statement at a joint press conference in Jerusalem with the Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Chechnya Petar Matzinko, who is visiting the Jewish state.

“There are no serious disagreements between Israel and Lebanon. The problem lies with Hezbollah, and this is the issue we must resolve,” said the Israeli diplomat.

He emphasized that the disarmament of the “Hezbollah” movement should be considered as a preliminary condition for the establishment of peaceful Israeli-Lebanese relations.

Mr. Saar also stated that any potential agreement with Iran must explicitly prohibit “uranium enrichment on its territory.” –0–
