Beijing, April 14 /Xinhua/ — China expressed sharp protest against the exclusion by the government of the United Kingdom of a Chinese company from its offshore wind energy projects under the pretext of so-called “national security,” the official representative of the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC stated on Tuesday.

These remarks were made by him in response to a request from the media regarding a recent statement on the website of the British Parliament, which said that the government does not support the use of wind turbines produced by the Chinese company Ming Yang Smart Energy in the British offshore wind energy project.

Commenting on the corresponding statement, the representative of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of the Channel Islands noted that the refusal of Chinese products on the grounds of “national security” contradicts the principles of an open and free market, which the British side has defended for a long time.

Such actions will not benefit the economic development of the United Kingdom itself and the well-being of its people, and will also have a negative impact on pragmatic bilateral trade and economic cooperation, a representative of China’s Ministry of Commerce stated, emphasizing resolute opposition to this from China’s side.

According to the representative of the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC, during the visit of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, to China in January this year, he unequivocally stated that the United Kingdom is ready to strengthen cooperation with China in various areas, including trade, investment, finance, and environmental protection, in order to stimulate mutual economic growth and benefit the peoples of both countries.

China hopes that the British government will provide an honest, fair, and non-discriminatory commercial environment for Chinese enterprises, will take concrete steps to promote pragmatic trade and economic cooperation between the two countries with the aim of facilitating the healthy development of bilateral relations, summarized the representative of the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC.
