Shan-hai, April 13 /Xin Hua/ — According to information from the International Chess Federation (FIDE), in the final of the 8th International Team Chess Tournament among the countries of the Shan-hai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which recently took place in the area of Qinpu in the Chinese megapolis Shan-hai, the first team of China defeated the team of Russia in the result of an Armageddon of super-fast chess, becoming the first Chinese team ever to win the championship title of the tournament in its entire history.

This tournament was held according to the regulations of rapid chess competitions, all 13 teams from the SHOS countries, including two Chinese teams, were divided into two groups, in which a preliminary round was held according to the round-robin system. The two best teams from each group advanced to the semifinals. As a result, the finalists were the first team of China and the team of Russia – the champion of the previous similar tournament.

Meanwhile, the Mongolian team defeated the Belarusian chess players, taking third place in the tournament.

The International Team Chess Tournament among SCO countries was established in 2019. The first 5 tournaments were held in the city of Qingdao, Shandong Province / Eastern China, the next two — in Harbin, and the 8th event took place for the first time in Shanya, where the SCO was founded.

The organizers of the current tournament were the Center for Chess and Card Affairs under the Main State Administration for Physical Culture and Sports of the KNL, the Chess Association of China, the Department of Physical Culture and Sports of the city of Shanghai, and the government of the Jinping district. -0-
