Moscow, April 13 /Sin Hua/ — The actions of the Japanese authorities, covering up an increase in defensive capabilities, are characterized as a policy of new militarization, threatening the security of the Asia-Pacific region /APAC/. This was stated by the assistant to the President of Russia, Chairman of the Maritime Board of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev in an interview with “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”.

“Such activity does not comply with international law and national legislation, violates the provisions of the Act of Japan’s Capitulation, and seriously contradicts its constitution, which does not permit the possession of strike weapons,” emphasized N. Patrushev.

According to him, Japan’s naval forces are annually replenished with increasingly advanced submarines. Currently, Japan has begun deploying long-range missile systems, and adaptation of laser weapons for use with surface ships is ongoing.

“The Japanese Ministry of Defense has decided to create a special unit for coordinating the accelerated deployment of unmanned weapons and systems based on artificial intelligence in the fleet during April of this year,” noted the assistant to the President of the Russian Federation.

“We predict that Tokyo will continue to build up its military potential with an emphasis on offensive actions both individually and as part of broad coalitions involving NATO countries,” N. Patrushev added.
