Cooperation between China and Central Asia in Combating Desertification Has Yielded Results

Yinchuan, April 11 /Xinhua/ — Since the establishment of the China-Central Asia Desertification Prevention and Control Cooperation Center, this organization has achieved a series of results in cooperation to combat desertification by strengthening fundamental research, conducting international exchanges and training, facilitating the implementation of international cooperation projects and other activities by 2025. According to the above-mentioned agency’s report, from August 26 to September 1, 2025, the Forestry and Steppe Management of FAO and the Secretariat of the United Nations Convention jointly organized the “International Seminar 2025 on Technologies and Practices for Combating Desertification,” in which 23 people from 12 countries, including countries from Central Asia, participated.At the moment, the Center for Cooperation between China and the Central Asian countries on Desertification Prevention and Control has received 9 international delegations from 37 countries, acquainting visitors with China’s technologies and experience in the field of desertification prevention and control.

Meanwhile, the center also strengthened fundamental research and commissioned the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and other institutions to prepare four documents, including “Strategic Research of the Center for China-Central Asia Cooperation on Desertification Prevention and Control” and “Analytical Report on the List of Technologies and Potential for Dissemination,” which systematically set forth the needs of Central Asian countries in combating desertification and the potential for cooperation.

In 2026, the above-mentioned center plans to implement a joint research project between China and Central Asia on desertification prevention and control, within the framework of which a study of desertification prevention and control technologies will be conducted for typical regions suffering from this problem in Uzbekistan. -0-
