Moscow, April 9 /Sinhua/ — Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a ceasefire. The corresponding message was published on Thursday on the Kremlin’s website.
“By the decision of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in connection with the upcoming Orthodox holiday of Easter, a ceasefire is declared from 16:00 on April 11 until the end of the day on April 12, 2026,” the message says.
As noted in the Kremlin, Russia expects Ukraine to follow Moscow’s example with a ceasefire on Easter.
“One of the reasons is that the Ukrainian side follows the example of the Russian Federation,” the message emphasizes.
“The Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation A. V. Belousov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation — Commander of the Joint Grouping of Troops/Forces General of the Army V. V. Gerasimov, has been given instructions to halt combat operations in all directions for this period. The troops are to be ready to suppress possible provocations from the enemy side, as well as any of their aggressive actions,” the Kremlin statement says. –0–
