Moscow/Kiev, April 10 /Xin Hua/ — Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a full ceasefire, in response to which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed readiness for reciprocal steps.

“By the decision of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, in connection with the upcoming Orthodox holiday of Easter, a ceasefire is declared from 16:00 on April 11 until the end of April 12, 2026,” the message published on Thursday on the Kremlin website says. “One of the conditions is that the Ukrainian side follows the example of the Russian Federation,” the statement emphasizes.

“Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation A. E. Belousov, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation — Commander of the Joint Grouping of Forces / Troops / Army General V. V. Gerasimov has been given instructions for this period to halt combat operations in all directions. The troops are to be prepared to suppress possible provocations from the enemy side, as well as any of its aggressive actions,” the Kremlin message states.

V. Zelensky, in response to the Kremlin’s statements about the possibility of a partial ceasefire, said that Ukraine is ready for a “mirror step” and has already proposed a cessation of hostilities during the period of religious holidays, emphasizing the importance of security for citizens and the real progress towards peace.

“Ukraine has repeatedly stated that we are ready for a reciprocal step. This year, we proposed a ceasefire during the Easter holidays and will act accordingly. People need Easter without threats and with real movement towards peace, and Russia has a chance not to return to strikes after Easter,” he wrote on Friday on social media.
