London, April 10 /Xinhua/ — The Russian Embassy in London on Thursday rejected the statement by the British Defence Secretary John Hill about the activity of Russian submarines in the North Atlantic as untrustworthy and unverifiable.
Earlier on Thursday, J. Hill reported that the United Kingdom and Norway conducted a month-long operation to track Russian submarines near key underwater cables and pipelines in the North Atlantic.
According to diplomats, the statement by J. Hill that Britain reflected the “aggression” of the alleged Russian submarine in neutral waters for several weeks, using “only one ship and an observation plane,” is implausible and cannot be verified.
The embassy added that London recently made “extremely aggressive statements and threats” regarding trading vessels operating in the interests of Russian companies and their partners. “If these threats are carried out, there will be consequences,” the diplomats emphasized.
Russia does not threaten the underwater infrastructure, which is critically important for the United Kingdom, and does not use aggressive rhetoric on this issue, while the responsibility for sabotage on the ‘Nord Stream’ pipeline lies with Western countries, the embassy emphasized.
