Minsk, April 10 /Sin Hua/ — Belarus and Tanzania intend to expand cooperation in the agro-industrial sector. This was discussed at a meeting of the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food of Belarus Alexander Yakovchits and the Ambassador of Tanzania to Russia and Belarus by concurrently accredited Fredrick Ibrahima Kibuta in Minsk. The corresponding information was published by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of Belarus on Thursday.

The parties discussed the prospects for the development of bilateral cooperation in the field of agriculture and food security.

“Analyzing the figures of our mutual trade, which showed almost a fourfold increase last year, we understand that our potential is not exhausted and we are interested in developing relations with Tanzania, as a region that is a priority,” noted A. Yakovchitz.

Export of Belarusian products includes the supply of vegetable oil and meat-and-bone meal, imports – oil seeds, fruits, coffee, and flowers. Belarus is also ready to offer partners a wide range of products: dairy products, including skimmed milk /whole and skimmed/, baby food, butter and cheese, as well as poultry meat.

In turn, the Ambassador of Tanzania expressed interest in exchanging experience with the Belarusian side.

“Tanzania is experiencing a significant demand for quality fertilizers, and one of our companies has already prepared a specific request and specification for Belarusian manufacturers,” he reported.

The parties agreed on the creation of a joint working group for detailed elaboration of proposals and the formation of an action plan. Among the promising areas of cooperation: supply of Belarusian fertilizers and technologies, exchange of agronomic technologies, development of educational programs, and establishment of direct contacts between exporters and importers of the two countries.
