Washington, April 7 /Xin Hua/ — US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that he agreed to “suspend bombings and attacks on Iran for two weeks.”
He wrote on social media that his decision “depends” on Iran’s consent to a full, immediate, and safe opening of the Hormuz Strait.
“The reason for this step is that we have already achieved and exceeded all military objectives and are very far from a final agreement on long-term peace with Iran and peace in the Middle East,” said D. Trump.
“We have received a 10-point proposal from Iran and consider it a working basis for negotiations,” he said.
D. Trump called the two-week suspension of hostilities a “bilateral ceasefire.”
The proposal was put forward by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif to allow time for peace talks with Iran.
Earlier on Tuesday, Sh. Sharif called on D. Trump on the social network X to extend the deadline set by the American leader for reaching an agreement by two weeks, and also asked Iran to “open the Strait of Hormuz for a similar two-week period as a gesture of goodwill.” –0–
