Astana, April 7 /Xin Hua/ — Kazakhstan plans to extract 128.9 million tons of coal in 2026. This was reported on Tuesday by the Kazinform news agency with reference to the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Erlan Akkenzhaev.
As the minister stated while speaking at a government meeting, in 2025 the volume of coal production in Kazakhstan will amount to about 115.9 million tons, having increased by 7 percent in annual terms. Of this volume, 85.9 million tons were directed to domestic consumption, mainly in the electric power industry, the utility and consumer sectors, and industry, while exports reached 30 million tons. The main export destinations were Russia, Poland, Uzbekistan, Turkey, India, and Malaysia.
E. Akkenzhenov noted that Kazakhstan ranks 10th in the world in coal reserves, estimated at 33.6 billion tons, and can meet mining needs for more than 300 years at the current production level. –0–
