Deputy Prime Minister Aleksey Overchuk held a working meeting in Moscow with the Governor of the Omsk Region, Vitaliy Khotsenko. The parties discussed the development of trade and economic cooperation between the Omsk Region and the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as issues of cross-border water use of the Irtysh River.

Special attention was paid to the preparation for the XXII Forum of Interregional Cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan and to the 27th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan, which is planned to be held in Omsk in the autumn of 2026.

Omsk will also become the venue for the Forum of Interregional Cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan for the third time. The forum intends to discuss the expansion of direct contacts between regions, entrepreneurs, and organizations of the two countries, as well as the further development of economic, cultural, and humanitarian ties. At the forum field, the signing of intergovernmental agreements is expected, as well as memoranda of cooperation between regions and enterprises of Russia and Kazakhstan.

“The holding of the Forum on interregional cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan in Omsk emphasizes the special role of the region as an important center of Russian-Kazakh interaction. We are confident that the 22nd forum will become an effective mechanism for advancing specific solutions – from expanding business contacts to strengthening interregional cooperation and developing border territories,” noted Alexey Overchuk.
