Beijing, April 5 /Xinhua/ — China is ready to continue cooperation with Russia within the framework of the UN Security Council, support timely communication on key issues, and make joint efforts to facilitate de-escalation of the situation in the Middle East, protect peace and stability in the region, as well as overall security worldwide. This was stated on Sunday by China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Wan Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, made this statement during a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The head of the UN Secretariat indicated that China and Russia, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, must demonstrate honesty and fairness in fundamental issues, adhere to an objective and balanced approach, and strive for greater understanding and support from the international community.

Noting that China consistently advocates for resolving acute international and regional problems through dialogue and negotiations, Wang Yi stated that the situation in the Middle East continues to worsen, and military confrontation is escalating. According to him, the cardinal way to solve the problem with the passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz is, in his words, the imminent cessation of fire and the end of the war.

S. Lavrov, on his part, stated that Russia is deeply concerned about the ongoing escalation of the situation in the Middle East.

Speaking about the ongoing conflict and the problem of the Hormuz Strait, the Russian diplomat emphasized that Russia considers it imperative to immediately cease military actions and return to the path of political and diplomatic settlement to address the root causes of the conflict. He drew attention to the fact that the UN Security Council should play a constructive role in this.

S. Lavrov stated the readiness of the Russian Federation to support close communication and coordination with China, continuing to contribute in word and deed to the cessation of fire and the completion of the war. –0–
