Washington, April 4 /Xinhua/ — The Administrative and Budget Office of the White House on Friday released the budget proposal for fiscal year 2027, which includes an increase in defense spending to 1.5 trillion US dollars alongside significant cuts in funding for domestic programs.
The budget is based on the “historically common level of defense spending at 1 trillion dollars” and envisions a request of 1.5 trillion dollars for 2027, which is 44 percent more, wrote the director of the office, Russell Vought.
Meanwhile, the 2027 budget “is based on the President’s vision and provides for a further reduction of non-military expenditures and reform of the federal government,” proposing a 10 percent cut compared to the 2026 level, according to the document published on the official website of the White House.
At the event in the White House on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump emphasized the priority of allocating funds for defense, noting that such internal responsibilities as healthcare should be transferred to the states.
In addition to cuts to healthcare programs, the White House budget proposal also provides for reductions in aid to refugees in resettlement, implementation of renewable energy projects, university grants, and housing programs. –0–
