From March 30 to April 3, 2026, at the siteNovosibirsk State University (NSU)иSpecialized Educational and Scientific Center (SUNC) NSUcompleted the final of the school track profile “Genome Editing” of the National Technological Olympiad. The final this year was attended by 43 students from grades 8-11 from 13 regions, including 18 finalists from Novosibirsk and the Novosibirsk region, 5 finalists from SUNTS NGU. The winners and prize-winners were 16 people: nine from the Novosibirsk region, five from Moscow, and one each from the Bryansk and Tver regions.
—Novosibirsk Region rightfully prides itself on the fact that it is here that the final stage of one of the most complex and prestigious biotechnological competitions in the country takes place. Akademgorodok is a place where scientific discoveries of global scale are born, where the traditions of the Siberian genetic school are carefully preserved and multiplied by new generations of researchers. The government of Novosibirsk Region considers the participation of schoolchildren in the National Technological Olympiad not just as a competition, but as the most important element of the system for identifying and supporting young talents. We consistently create conditions so that every schoolchild can realize their potential: the regional center “Altair” is operating, specialized classes with in-depth study of natural sciences, a network of technoparks and laboratories is being developed. Our goal is that talented children, who today show themselves at olympiads, tomorrow join the ranks of students at the leading universities of the region, and then research teams and high-tech companies.NTO support is a concrete contribution to strengthening the personnel scientific potential of the Novosibirsk region, ensuring the continuity of generations in science and the innovative economy, — commented the deputy governor of the Novosibirsk regionIrina Manuilova.
At the solemn closing ceremony, which took place at the site of one of the facilitiesnew campus of NGU— at the SUNS NGU leisure center, the Minister of Education of the Novosibirsk Region participatedMaria Zhafyarova. Novosibirsk Oblast has been the region — leader in the number of schoolchildren involved in the National Technological Olympiad for the second year in a row. The region now serves as a venue for the finals in four nominations and four tracks.
— This is possibly only because there are such remarkable, fundamental, profound, well-established, higher educational institutions in the Novosibirsk region, like Novosibirsk State University. The most important thing you will take away from these experiences is a very important research and inventive skill; the meta-active engagement is always to be in the process and to do more than the utilitarian circumstances offered by you require. Thank you for already professing this position,— emphasizedMaria Zhafyarova.
The rector of NSU, corresponding member of the RAS, spoke with a parting word to the finalistsDmitry Pyshny. He emphasized the importance of genome editing for the development of science and spoke about the prospects of these technologies:
—Genome editing in the country is currently supported at the very highest level, with a number of world-class centers created, and interesting research projects being implemented. I am very pleased that the most important youth event in this field is taking place at Novosibirsk State University. I consider this direction one of the most important, which has already been realized and has demonstrated all its scientific power, and in the near future will show its technological power. Here, by the way, it is surprising and insightful the mind and foresight of Sergey Lukyanenko, who, having written his book “Genome”, described what is already being implemented. This is one of the most interesting books demonstrating the full power of this technology. A huge thank you for being fascinated by this field.

The “Genome Editing” STEM profile was organized in the 2018/19 academic year on the initiative of the staff of NSU and the Institute of Chemical Biology and Fundamental Medicine SB RAS. This profile is one of the most popular among schoolchildren and students, with more than 4000 schoolchildren from all regions of the Russian Federation participating in the qualifying round.
This year’s finalists competed in the laboratory of the new academic building of SUNTS, which was built as part of the federal project “Creation of a network of modern campuses.” They also had a rich cultural program: they visited one of the most modern planetariums in the region, located in the leisure center of SUNTS NGU, the Museum of the History of Akademgorodok, and the scientific-educational center “Earth Evolution.”
Finalists of grades 8–9, who demonstrated outstanding results in the theoretical round in chemistry and biology, received invitations to the Summer School of SUNTS NGU. Many winners, prize-winners, and finalists enroll inFaculty of Natural Sciencesи вInstitute of Medicine and Medical Technologies NGU.
The organizer of the profile “Genome Editing” is the National Genetics University (NGU) with the support of the Advanced Engineering School of NGU, the Infrastructure Center Helsnet NTI, the regional center “Altair”, companies JSC “R-Pharm”, JSC “Vector-Best”, the group of companies “Scientific Equipment” and “Medico-Biological Union”, LLC “Helikon”, LLC “Pharma”, LLC “Diaem”, LLC “Khimmed”.
