Beijing, April 4 /Xinhua/ — In the first quarter of 2026, the volume of sales under the government-supported consumer goods exchange program with trade-in in China amounted to 433.17 billion yuan (about 62.84 billion US dollars), new products under this program were purchased by more than 60.93 million people, according to data from China’s Ministry of Commerce, published on Friday.
In January-March, a total of 1.41 million applications for subsidies under the program of exchanging old cars for new ones were received, which contributed to an increase in new car sales by 228.69 billion yuan.
Within the framework of the program, about 23.21 million units of household appliances were sold during the indicated period, with a total value of 95.43 billion yuan, including refrigerators, washing machines, televisions, air conditioners, computers, and water heaters.
A total of 36.32 million units of digital and intellectual products were sold in the trade-in scheme, with total sales amounting to 109.05 billion yuan.
Chinese authorities have announced the extension of the subsidy program for the exchange of consumer goods under the trade-in system until 2026 as part of broader measures to stimulate consumption. To support the program this year, 62.5 billion yuan was allocated in advance from the funds obtained from the placement of long-term special government bonds. -0-
