Beijing, April 3 /Xinhua/ — On the occasion of the upcoming traditional Qingming Festival in China, a special period of operation for the entire Chinese railway system began on Friday, which will last until the following Tuesday. During this period, the total passenger flow on the country’s railways may reach 90.5 million trips, according to forecasts by the China State Railway Corporation.

It is assumed that during the specified period, an average of 18.1 million train trips will be made daily in the country, with the highest peak of passenger transportation occurring on Saturday, when the total number of trips in one day will reach 21.2 million.

According to railway operator data, this year during the three-day holiday break of the Chinming Festival (April 4-6), there is a high demand for trips for the purpose of visiting relatives, paying respects to ancestors, spring walks, and travel. At the same time, the largest share of passenger flow is made up of trips of medium and short distances, and a significant increase in the number of tourist trips is also noted.

The Qingming Festival, or Tomb-Sweeping Day, will be held on April 5 this year. It is a traditional Chinese holiday when people pay tribute to the deceased and honor their ancestors. On this holiday, people are also allowed to take a break from work and study, dedicating time to active rest and visiting tourist attractions.
